(repost from my post at
http://www.gather-network.eu/forums/2/463/12/#112)
Here are a few things that I believe should be looked into:
1. Central and/or West coast servers for US gather:
By having only east coast servers, you are missing out on about 80% of the player base in the united states. I play from west coast on east coast servers, and it is extremely frustrating trying to compete with 93-115 ping against those with 8-30 ping. This is the reason that cs.gather.us is not bigger than it is. Most players from west coast and central do not play gather, mainly because of the ping.
2. Anti-Cheat:
I believe that the anti-cheat client should be forced to be run when playing on any gather servers. If this is not an option you are willing to look into, then at least offer admins the option of making a gather for those whom run the Anti-cheat only, not allowing those who are not running it to join. Something that could be looked into, would be that if a gather is !fair and counts for stats, the Anti-Cheat client must be run by all. This is a major suggestion, because most people I have talked to that have issues with gather, do so mainly because they believe there is either no anti-cheat, or that because it is not forced, therefor they won't waste their time playing on it.
3. More In-depth Game Statistics:
The weapon stats, Kill:death ratio, and skill rating are all neat statistics offered currently with cs.gather. I would love to see more detailed game statistics, which could rival other such pickup-group based networks(not naming any names to avoid advertising for them). Some statistics I feel would be great to see would be: Average Damage Per Round(ADR), Frags Per Round(FPR), statistics for clutches(1v1,1v2,1v3,etc), multiple frags per round(2k,3k,4k,5k[aces]), Head Shot Percentage(hsp), Bomb Plants(BP), and Defuses.
I know it would be time consuming and strenuous to implement all these things, however I believe that gather could easily explode on the US scene for cs 1.6 if, at the very least, west coast(LA, California) and/or at least central servers(Dallas, Texas) were added to the mix. The anti-cheat client would be nice to require, and such falls second on my list. The game statistics are not essential, but would be the 'icing on the cake,' to make gather a lot more attractive to those whom might have never joined gather.
Thanks for taking the time to read this wall of text, I love gather and hope you guys continue to offer this service for a long time
